While styling details of the domesticated Humer 2 SUV are revealed in these photos, caught on an executive ride-and-drive outside of GM's proving grounds in southeastern Michigan, much remains hidden. Unlike the original Hummer, with its one-of-a-kind chassis and drivetrain, the Hummer 2 uses GM's well-proven pickup truck chassis for its underpinings. The drivetrain is strictly high-production, too, with a V-8 engine, automatic transmission and four-wheel-drive components taken from light-truck inventories. Inside, the differences are just as pronounced. In place of the space-- gobbling center console that runs the length of the Hummer, the Hummer 2 has an interior that is much like the Suburban, with plenty of elbow room for five or six passengers.
