DETROIT -- Engineers have specified plastic sheet-molding compound for the integrated hood-and-fender assemblies on General Motors Corp.'s new Hummer H2 sport utility vehicles for 2003. Except for those big closures, the bodies and frames of the newest Hummer are fabricated out of steel. Most of the components are stamped, but some are hydroformed tubular parts.
